Our adventure begins in Bergen, where we settle into a comfortable coach for a picturesque journey towards Loen. Along the way, we experience Sognefjord—Norway’s longest and deepest fjord—offering spectacular views stretching both east and west.
We continue through the beautiful Sogn region, where our guide shares fascinating stories and local anecdotes. As we approach Loen, we are surrounded by towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and stunning fjords. The total driving time is approximately six hours, filled with unforgettable natural scenery.
Upon arrival in Loen, we are welcomed by the iconic Hotel Alexandra, beautifully situated between majestic mountains and the deep blue fjord. Before enjoying a delicious dinner at the hotel’s renowned restaurant, our guide takes us on a short tour of the breathtaking fjord landscape.
Today’s excursion takes us through the scenic Oldedalen Valley to Briksdal Glacier, a dramatic part of Jostedalsbreen National Park. After a 30-minute bus ride, we arrive at Briksdal Glacier Lodge, where the adventure truly begins.
To get closer to this majestic glacier, we board open, electric Troll Cars, which transport us 2.5 kilometers up the valley. The final 500 meters are covered on foot, allowing us to soak in the views of rushing waterfalls, lush green landscapes, and towering mountains.
Briksdal Glacier plunges from 1,200 meters, forming a striking contrast between the ice masses and the narrow, green valley. This iconic landscape attracts visitors from around the world, and it’s easy to see why—this is Norwegian nature at its absolute finest.
At the foot of Briksdal, we take time to enjoy a delightful meal with panoramic views of mountains and waterfalls. You can also browse a cozy souvenir shop, where you’ll find unique gifts to remember this incredible experience.
Today, we set off for the spectacular Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our journey begins with a scenic drive through Stryn, where deep valleys, emerald lakes, and towering mountains surround us.
Along the way, we pass the Jostedalsbreen National Park Center, gradually winding our way up the steep mountain roads. Below us, Lake Strynevatnet shimmers like a mirror, while waterfalls tumble down the mountainsides, veiled in mist from the melting glaciers.
Our next stop is Dalsnibba, one of Northern Europe’s most iconic viewpoints. The drive itself is a highlight, leading us to breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, deep valleys, and the spectacular Geirangerfjord far below. From this airy viewpoint, we can also see the famous Geiranger Road, which winds down the mountainside in elegant hairpin turns. Originally built for horse and cart, this engineering marvel won the Gold Medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1900.
Arriving in Geiranger, we are greeted by a breathtaking landscape, where steep mountains plunge dramatically into the fjord, shimmering like a blue-green jewel. Even for Norwegians, this view is awe-inspiring—a reminder of how unique our fjord landscapes truly are.
We have time to explore the charming village, perhaps sampling handmade Geiranger chocolate or browsing local handicrafts and souvenirs.
In the afternoon, we board a ferry to Hellesylt, sailing through Geirangerfjord’s postcard-perfect scenery. Along the way, we pass the famous Seven Sisters Waterfall, cascading down the cliffs like a shimmering veil. Below us, the fjord glistens like a diamond, surrounded by towering mountains reaching towards the sky.
The short drive back to Loen takes us through the scenic Hornindal region, giving us time to reflect on a day filled with unforgettable sights and experiences.
Today, we embark on a spectacular experience—a ride on the Loen Skylift! Located just minutes from the hotel, this modern cable car whisks us 1,011 meters straight up to the top of Mt. Hoven in just a few minutes.
At the summit, we are treated to an unforgettable panoramic view of majestic, snow-covered peaks and the deep Nordfjord glittering far below.
At the top, we find a fantastic restaurant, where we can sit back, relax, and soak in the spectacular fjord scenery while enjoying a delicious lunch or a refreshing drink. Up here, it truly feels like floating above Western Norway!
After returning from Loen Skylift, the afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. You may choose to unwind in the hotel’s exclusive spa and wellness center, where you can soak in warm pools, indulge in a relaxing treatment, or simply gaze out over the fjord and mountains.
After several incredible days in Loen, we begin our journey back to Bergen. The bus ride takes us through stunning landscapes, passing deep fjords, towering mountains, and idyllic villages. Along the way, we drive past Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, and continue through breathtaking scenery as we approach Bergen—the vibrant capital of Western Norway.
Upon arrival, we embark on a guided city walk, exploring Bergen’s historic streets. We stroll through Bryggen, the iconic Hanseatic Wharf, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before weaving through narrow alleyways that tell the story of Bergen’s rich history.
As we explore the city center, we also pass famous landmarks such as the Fish Market, Fløibanen funicular, and Torgallmenningen Square. Our guide shares fascinating stories about Bergen’s past, from its medieval trade roots to its status as a modern cultural hub.
In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner at one of Bergen’s renowned restaurants. We enjoy a delicious meal based on local ingredients, reminiscing about our incredible journey through Western Norway’s fjords, mountains, and unforgettable experiences.
After an unforgettable journey through Western Norway, it is time to head home. After a hearty breakfast at our hotel in Bergen, we check out and say goodbye to the city.
